Monograph
Tablet
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure); management of chronic stable angina (chest pain due to coronary artery disease) when combination therapy is appropriate.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiac workload. Atenolol is a cardioselective beta-blocker that slows heart rate and reduces the force of contraction, helping lower blood pressure and control angina symptoms.
Take orally as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time each day. Can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
dizziness, headache, fatigue, ankle swelling (edema), flushing, slow heart rate (bradycardia), cold extremities, nausea
Use with caution in patients with asthma/COPD, diabetes (may mask hypoglycemia), peripheral vascular disease, thyroid disorders, and kidney impairment (atenolol dose may need adjustment). Not recommended in severe bradycardia, heart block, cardiogenic shock, decompensated heart failure, or severe hypotension. Do not discontinue abruptly (risk of rebound angina/MI). Monitor blood pressure and heart rate; seek help for wheezing, fainting, or worsening chest pain.
Other antihypertensives (additive hypotension), verapamil/diltiazem (risk of bradycardia/heart block), digoxin (bradycardia), clonidine (rebound hypertension if stopped improperly), NSAIDs (may reduce BP control), insulin/oral antidiabetics (masked hypoglycemia), CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers affecting amlodipine levels (e.g., clarithromycin, azole antifungals, rifampicin), sildenafil/tadalafil (increased hypotension)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
