Important Warnings

Prescription-only antidiabetic. Risk of hypoglycaemia (especially with missed meals, alcohol, heavy exercise, or with other antidiabetics); carry glucose. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk higher in kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, heart/respiratory failure, alcohol use; assess renal function before and during therapy. Hold metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Use caution in elderly and in liver disease. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Drug Interactions

Glimefort-M2 Tab may interact with the following:

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk)
insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia)
ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering)
beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms)
corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics/sympathomimetics (raise blood glucose)
rifampicin (reduces glimepiride effect)
fluconazole/azoles (increase sulfonylurea effect)
iodinated contrast media (metformin—lactic acidosis risk)
