Composition of Glimefort-M2 Tablet

Glimefort-M2 Tablet contains Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg (modified/extended release). It belongs to the Sulfonylurea + Biguanide class of medicines.

How Glimefort-M2 Tablet works

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas. Metformin (a biguanide) reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, helping the body use glucose better.

How to take Glimefort-M2 Tablet

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, usually once daily with/after a main meal (preferably breakfast). Swallow whole; do not crush/chew if modified/extended-release. Monitor blood glucose regularly and follow diet/exercise advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Glimefort-M2 as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Glimefort-M2 than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Glimefort-M2 Tablet

Most side effects of Glimefort-M2 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort
• metallic taste
• headache
• dizziness
• weight gain

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Glimefort-M2 Tablet

Warnings and precautions

Prescription-only antidiabetic. Risk of hypoglycaemia (especially with missed meals, alcohol, heavy exercise, or with other antidiabetics); carry glucose. Metformin may rarely cause lactic acidosis—risk higher in kidney impairment, dehydration, severe infection, heart/respiratory failure, alcohol use; assess renal function before and during therapy. Hold metformin before/after iodinated contrast procedures and major surgery as advised. Use caution in elderly and in liver disease. Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk),insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia),ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering),beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms),corticosteroids/thiazide diuretics/sympathomimetics (raise blood glucose),rifampicin (reduces glimepiride effect),fluconazole/azoles (increase sulfonylurea effect),iodinated contrast media (metformin—lactic acidosis risk)

How to store Glimefort-M2 Tablet

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
