Important Warnings

Not for type 1 diabetes; risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (can occur even with near-normal glucose)—seek urgent care for nausea/vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing. Can cause dehydration and hypotension, especially in elderly, on diuretics, or with low BP; maintain fluids. Monitor kidney function; avoid/initiate with caution in renal impairment as per clinician advice. Higher risk of genital mycotic infections and UTIs; maintain hygiene and report symptoms. Temporarily withhold before major surgery/acute serious illness or prolonged fasting to reduce DKA risk. Use caution in patients with history of ketoacidosis.

Diuretics (increased dehydration/hypotension risk)
insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk)
ACE inhibitors/ARBs and other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering)
NSAIDs (may worsen renal function in predisposed)
lithium (levels may change with diuresis)
