How It Works
Normal saline is an isotonic crystalloid solution that expands the extracellular fluid (intravascular and interstitial) compartment. It replenishes sodium and chloride and helps restore circulating volume and hydration.
Directions for Use
For intravenous infusion/administration as directed by a doctor. Dose and rate depend on age, weight, clinical condition and electrolyte status. Use aseptic technique; inspect for particulate matter/leakage; do not use if solution is discoloured. Single-use container—discard unused portion.
Use with caution in heart failure, renal impairment/oliguria/anuria, hypertension, edema, pre-eclampsia, or conditions requiring sodium restriction. Monitor fluid balance, serum electrolytes and acid–base status during therapy, especially in children/elderly. Risk of fluid overload and pulmonary edema with excessive/rapid infusion.
