Sodium Chloride Injection I.P. 0.9% w/v (Normal Saline)
Fluid and electrolyte replenishment in dehydration/hypovolemia, maintenance IV fluid therapy, sodium and chloride replacement, diluent/vehicle for IV medicines, flushing/irrigation as directed in clinical settings
Normal saline is an isotonic crystalloid solution that expands the extracellular fluid (intravascular and interstitial) compartment. It replenishes sodium and chloride and helps restore circulating volume and hydration.
For intravenous infusion/administration as directed by a doctor. Dose and rate depend on age, weight, clinical condition and electrolyte status. Use aseptic technique; inspect for particulate matter/leakage; do not use if solution is discoloured. Single-use container—discard unused portion.
Fluid overload, edema, hypernatremia, hyperchloremia, acid-base imbalance (hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis), injection site reactions, phlebitis
Use with caution in heart failure, renal impairment/oliguria/anuria, hypertension, edema, pre-eclampsia, or conditions requiring sodium restriction. Monitor fluid balance, serum electrolytes and acid–base status during therapy, especially in children/elderly. Risk of fluid overload and pulmonary edema with excessive/rapid infusion. Do not use if container is damaged or solution is not clear. Use only under medical supervision.
May interact with drugs affected by sodium/fluid balance (e.g., corticosteroids, NSAIDs) increasing risk of fluid retention; use caution with other IV fluids/electrolyte solutions. Compatibility must be checked before mixing with injectable medicines.
Store at room temperature (generally below 25°C), protected from excessive heat and light. Do not freeze. Keep container in outer carton until use if applicable.
