Zukanorm 50 Tablet contains Vildagliptin (50mg). It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor (gliptin) class of medicines.

How Zukanorm 50 Tablet works

Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor. It increases incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which enhance glucose-dependent insulin release and reduce glucagon secretion, thereby lowering blood glucose mainly after meals.

How to take Zukanorm 50 Tablet

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily, with or without food. Swallow tablet whole with water; take at the same time each day. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease; do not stop or change dose without medical advice.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of ZuKaNorM 50mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine may cause low blood sugar, particularly if you also take other diabetes medicines. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Most side effects of Zukanorm are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• abdominal pain

Warnings and precautions

Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in kidney disease (dose adjustment required) and in patients with history of pancreatitis; stop and seek medical help if severe abdominal pain occurs. Rare but serious hypersensitivity reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulty) can occur; discontinue if suspected. May cause low blood sugar when used with insulin or sulfonylureas; monitor glucose. Report severe joint pain or skin blisters/sores (bullous pemphigoid) to a doctor.

Do not take Zukanorm if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for type 1 diabetes or for diabetic ketoacidosis.

Interactions with other medicines

Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased risk of hypoglycaemia), digoxin (may increase digoxin levels; monitor), strong P-gp inhibitors (may increase sitagliptin exposure), alcohol (can worsen glycaemic control)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

ZuKaNorM 50mg Tablet should be taken at the same time every day since this helps you remember to take it. It may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Always carry some sugary food or fruit juice with you in case you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor and anxiety. Be careful while driving or operating machinery until you know how ZuKaNorM 50mg Tablet affects you. Your doctor may check your kidney and liver function before starting treatment and regularly thereafter. Inform your doctor if you develop symptoms such as abdominal pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, darkened urine or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
