Donepezil hydrochloride 5 mg (as film-coated tablet)

Treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease dementia to improve or maintain memory, awareness and ability to perform daily activities

Donepezil is a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It increases acetylcholine levels in the brain by reducing its breakdown, which may help improve cognitive function and behaviour in Alzheimer’s disease.

Oral tablet: usually taken once daily at bedtime. Swallow whole with water; can be taken with or without food. Use exactly as prescribed and do not stop abruptly without medical advice.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, insomnia, fatigue, muscle cramps

Use with caution in patients with heart rhythm problems (bradycardia, sick sinus, conduction defects), history of fainting, peptic ulcer/bleeding, asthma/COPD, seizures, urinary obstruction, liver impairment. May cause dizziness or syncope—avoid driving if affected. Inform doctor before surgery/anaesthesia.

Anticholinergics (may reduce effect), other cholinesterase inhibitors, NSAIDs (increased GI bleeding risk), beta-blockers and other bradycardia-causing drugs (increased risk of slow heart rate), CYP3A4/2D6 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin, fluoxetine, paroxetine) may increase levels, enzyme inducers (e.g., rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine) may reduce levels

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and light. Keep in original pack and out of reach of children.
