Cloba-5 contains Clobazam 5 mg. It belongs to the Benzodiazepine class of medicines.

Uses of Cloba-5

Adjunct treatment of epilepsy/seizure disorders (including Lennox–Gastaut syndrome); short-term management of severe anxiety (as prescribed).

How Cloba-5 works

Clobazam is a benzodiazepine that enhances the effect of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA at GABA-A receptors. This reduces abnormal electrical activity in the brain, helping control seizures and producing anxiolytic and sedative effects.

How to take Cloba-5

Tablet; take exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Do not stop suddenly; dose should be tapered to avoid withdrawal and rebound seizures.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Cloba-5 as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Cloba-5 than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Side effects of Cloba-5

Most side effects of Cloba-5 are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• Drowsiness
• dizziness
• fatigue
• sleepiness
• poor coordination (ataxia)
• slurred speech
• confusion
• memory impairment
• nausea
• constipation

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Safety advice for Cloba-5

Warnings and precautions

May cause sedation, dizziness and impaired coordination—avoid driving/operating machinery. Risk of dependence and withdrawal with prolonged use; do not discontinue abruptly. Use with caution in elderly, liver/kidney impairment, history of substance use disorder, depression/suicidal thoughts, and respiratory disease (e.g., COPD, sleep apnea). Concomitant use with opioids, alcohol or other CNS depressants can cause profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma or death. Seek urgent help for allergic reactions or severe skin reactions (rare).

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (opioids, antihistamines, antipsychotics, sedatives) increase sedation/respiratory depression; valproate may increase clobazam active metabolite levels; carbamazepine/phenytoin/phenobarbital may alter clobazam levels; CYP2C19 inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole, fluconazole, fluvoxamine) can increase effects; CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin) may reduce effect.

How to store Cloba-5

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
