Zolahart 40 mg Tablet contains Azilsartan medoxomil (40mg). It belongs to the Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) class of medicines.

How Zolahart 40 mg Tablet works

Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks angiotensin II at AT1 receptors, causing blood vessel relaxation and reduced aldosterone effects, which lowers blood pressure and reduces cardiac workload.

How to take Zolahart 40 mg Tablet

Take as prescribed by the doctor, usually once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water; do not stop abruptly without medical advice. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless it is close to the next dose.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Zolahart 40 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can cause a severe fall in blood pressure, with dizziness, fainting and a fast or slow pulse. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Zolahart 40 mg Tablet

Most side effects of Zolahart are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

• increased potassium (hyperkalemia)
• nausea
• diarrhea
• increased creatinine

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

Not recommended in pregnancy (can harm unborn baby); stop and consult doctor if pregnancy occurs. Use caution in kidney disease, renal artery stenosis, dehydration/low salt state, heart failure, and in elderly due to risk of low BP and kidney function worsening. Monitor blood pressure, kidney function and serum potassium periodically. Rare: severe diarrhea/weight loss (sprue-like enteropathy) reported with olmesartan—seek medical attention if persistent. Avoid potassium supplements/salt substitutes unless advised.

Do not take Zolahart if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Must not be used in pregnancy — it can seriously harm the developing baby. Not for people with narrowing of both kidney arteries, or a history of swelling of the face and throat caused by this group of medicines.

Interactions with other medicines

Potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, amiloride) and salt substitutes (risk of hyperkalemia), NSAIDs (may reduce BP effect and worsen kidney function), lithium (increased lithium levels/toxicity), other antihypertensives/diuretics (additive hypotension), ACE inhibitors or aliskiren (increased risk of kidney impairment/hyperkalemia; avoid especially in diabetes).

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.

Expert advice for Zolahart 40 mg Tablet

Take it at the same time every day to help you remember to take it. It can make you feel dizzy for the first few days. Rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down for a long time. Your doctor may get regular tests done to monitor the level of urea, creatinine, and potassium in your blood. Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen along with this medicine without consulting your doctor. Do not take Zolahart 40 Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor.
