Augmentin Es Suspension 642.9 mg/5 ml is used for treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, especially in children: acute otitis media, acute bacterial sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia/lower respiratory tract infections, tonsillitis/pharyngitis, skin and soft tissue infections as advised by doctor.

Augmentin Es Suspension 642.9 mg/5 ml contains Amoxicillin (as amoxicillin trihydrate) 600 mg + Clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) 42.9 mg per 5 mL oral suspension. It belongs to the Beta-lactam antibiotic (Aminopenicillin) + Beta-lactamase inhibitor class of medicines.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by some bacteria, protecting amoxicillin from breakdown and broadening its activity.
Oral suspension: Shake well before each use. Measure dose with a calibrated spoon/oral syringe as prescribed (dose based on child’s weight and infection severity). Usually given every 12 hours; preferably at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset. Complete the full prescribed course.
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.
Take the missed dose of Augmentin Es as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.
Taking more Augmentin Es than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.
Most side effects of Augmentin Es are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:
Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
| Pregnancy | Consult doctor (use with caution; generally considered safe when prescribed) |
|---|---|
| Alcohol | Use with caution (alcohol may worsen stomach upset; avoid in adults during therapy if possible) |
| Habit forming | No |
Prescription-only antibiotic. Do not use in patients with allergy to penicillins/cephalosporins or history of severe hypersensitivity. Stop and seek medical help if signs of anaphylaxis or severe skin reaction occur. Use with caution in liver disease; monitor if prolonged therapy (risk of hepatitis/cholestatic jaundice). Dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment. Antibiotics can cause C. difficile-associated diarrhoea—seek care for severe/persistent diarrhoea. Not for viral infections.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase INR/bleeding risk), methotrexate (increased toxicity), allopurinol (increased rash risk), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), mycophenolate mofetil (reduced active metabolite exposure), oral contraceptives (reduced efficacy reported—use backup if advised)
Store as per pack instructions. After reconstitution, keep tightly closed; commonly stored refrigerated (2–8°C) and do not freeze; use within the period mentioned on label. Protect from heat and moisture.
