How Clobanil 10 mg works

Clobazam is a benzodiazepine that enhances the effect of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, by acting on GABA-A receptors. This reduces abnormal nerve activity, producing anxiolytic, sedative and anticonvulsant effects.

How to take Clobanil 10 mg

Tablet taken by mouth exactly as prescribed. Can be taken with or without food; take at the same time each day. Do not stop suddenly—dose should be tapered under medical supervision. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Take the missed dose of Clobanil as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and carry on with the usual schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

If you take too much

Taking more Clobanil than prescribed can be harmful. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor or go to the nearest emergency department at once, and carry the pack or strip with you. In India the emergency number is 112.

Most side effects of Clobanil are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Prescription-only benzodiazepine; may cause dependence, tolerance and withdrawal—use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Can cause excessive sedation and respiratory depression, especially with opioids, alcohol or other CNS depressants. Use caution in elderly, liver disease, respiratory disorders (e.g., COPD, sleep apnea), depression or suicidal ideation. Not recommended for abrupt discontinuation. May impair alertness—avoid driving. Inform doctor if pregnant/breastfeeding.

Interactions with other medicines

Alcohol and other CNS depressants (opioids, sedating antihistamines, antipsychotics) increase sedation/respiratory depression; CYP2C19 inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole, fluconazole, fluvoxamine) may increase active metabolite levels; enzyme inducers (e.g., carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, rifampicin) may reduce effect; valproate may increase sedation; additive effects with other antiepileptics.
