Composition of Gabagesic Gel

Gabagesic Gel contains Lidocaine (5%w/w) + Gabapentin (6%w/w) + Baclofen (2%w/w). It belongs to the First-aid agent, Gabapentinoid and Centrally acting muscle relaxant class of medicines.

How Gabagesic Gel works

Gabagesic Gel is a combination of three medicines: Gabapentin, Lidocaine/Lignocaine, and Baclofen. Gabapentin is an alpha 2 delta ligand which decreases pain by modulating calcium channel activity of the nerve cells. Lidocaine/Lignocaine is a local anesthetic which works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain thereby decreasing the sensation of pain. Baclofen is a muscle relaxant. It works on the centres in the brain and spinal cord to relieve muscle stiffness or spasm without reduction in strength. This improves pain and movement of muscles. Together, they relieve neuropathic pain (pain from damaged nerves).

How to take Gabagesic Gel

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the gel. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from external use. It can cause deep drowsiness, confusion, unsteadiness and slowed breathing, especially with an opioid or alcohol. It can cause deep drowsiness, muscle weakness, a fall in blood pressure and slowed breathing. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Gabagesic Gel

Most side effects of Gabagesic are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Stop the medicine and seek help immediately for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.

Warnings and precautions

For external use only, unless the pack says otherwise. See a doctor for a deep, dirty or heavily bleeding wound, an animal bite, or any wound showing signs of infection. Check that your tetanus cover is current after any dirty or penetrating wound. This medicine causes drowsiness and unsteadiness, particularly when you start it or the dose goes up. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Never stop it suddenly. Stopping abruptly can cause anxiety, sleeplessness, sweating and, in people taking it for epilepsy, fits. Your doctor will taper it. Tell your doctor about any change in mood or any thoughts of harming yourself. The dose is usually built up slowly from a low starting point — follow the schedule your doctor gave you rather than jumping to the full dose. Pregabalin comes under Schedule H1 from 16 November 2026 and will then need a prescription and a pharmacy register entry. This medicine causes drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Use it for the short course your doctor has prescribed — these are not intended for long-term use. Do not stop a long course abruptly without asking your doctor.

Do not take Gabagesic if

Not for anyone with a known allergy to this medicine or to any ingredient in the pack. Not for use on large burns or deep wounds without medical advice. Not for people with myasthenia gravis or severe liver disease.

Interactions with other medicines

No significant interactions are expected. Opioid painkillers, alcohol, sleeping tablets and antihistamines all add to the drowsiness, and the combination with opioids can dangerously slow breathing. Antacids reduce the absorption of gabapentin — separate them by a couple of hours. Alcohol, sleeping tablets, antihistamines and opioid painkillers all add to the drowsiness, sometimes dangerously.

How to store Gabagesic Gel

Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Close the cap tightly after each use. Keep out of the reach of children.

Expert advice for Gabagesic Gel

Clean the wound first, then apply, and keep it covered and dry. Take the larger part of the dose at night if drowsiness is a problem. Rise slowly from sitting or lying, especially in the first weeks. Keep your review appointment so the dose can be adjusted to the lowest that controls your pain. Combine it with gentle movement and the physiotherapy your doctor advises; rest alone prolongs back pain. Take it at night if drowsiness troubles you during the day.
