How Halovate Lotion works

Halovate F Cream is a combination of two medicines: Halobetasol and Fusidic Acid which treat skin infections. Halobetasol is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Fusidic Acid is an antibiotic which kills bacteria by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.

How to take Halovate Lotion

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.

Take it exactly as your doctor prescribed. Do not change the dose or stop early on your own.

Missed dose and overdose

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose of Halovate F Cream, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

If you take too much

An overdose of this medicine can suppress the body's own steroid production when it is used for a long time over large areas, especially in children. It is unlikely from skin use. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.

Side effects of Halovate Lotion

Most side effects of Halovate are mild and settle as the body adjusts. Reported side effects include:

Halovate F Cream must be applied as a thin layer on the affected area as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use this medicine more often or for longer than advised by your doctor. Before each application, wash the affected area with soap and water and dry well. Avoid getting it in the eyes, mouth or nose. Rinse with cold water if you accidentally get it in these areas. Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects. Inform your doctor if the treated skin area does not improve after 2-4 weeks of treatment.
