Suspension

Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as ear infections (otitis media), sinusitis, throat/tonsil infections, lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis/pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections.

Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that kills bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by some bacteria, thereby protecting amoxicillin and extending its antibacterial spectrum.

Oral suspension: reconstitute with boiled and cooled water up to the mark and shake well. Give the dose as prescribed by the doctor (commonly in divided doses every 12 hours); preferably with food to reduce stomach upset. Shake well before each dose, use a measuring spoon/syringe, and complete the full course.

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rash, urticaria (hives), headache, thrush (candidiasis)

Prescription-only antibiotic. Do not use in patients with allergy to penicillins/cephalosporins or previous severe allergic reaction; stop and seek urgent care if breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or severe rash occurs. Use with caution in liver disease; monitor if prolonged therapy (risk of liver enzyme elevation/jaundice). Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney impairment. May cause antibiotic-associated diarrhoea; seek medical advice if severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhoea. Not effective for viral infections.

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase INR/bleeding risk), allopurinol (increased rash risk), methotrexate (increased toxicity), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), mycophenolate mofetil (reduced levels/effect)

Store dry powder at room temperature below 25°C, protected from moisture. After reconstitution, store in a refrigerator (2–8°C), do not freeze, keep tightly closed, and use within 7 days (or as per label).
