Monograph
Ambroxol Hydrochloride 30 mg + Levosalbutamol 1 mg + Guaifenesin 50 mg per 5 ml (common LS combination; verify label strength)
Productive (wet) cough, chest congestion with thick mucus, cough associated with bronchitis, bronchial asthma and COPD where mucus clearance and bronchodilation are required
Ambroxol is a mucolytic that breaks down and thins thick mucus to make it easier to cough out. Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases airway secretions and helps loosen phlegm. Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator (beta-2 agonist) that relaxes airway muscles to relieve wheeze and breathing difficulty.
Oral syrup. Shake well before use and measure with a dosing cup/spoon. Typically taken 2–3 times daily as prescribed; may be taken with or without food (take after food if stomach upset). Maintain adequate hydration for better mucus clearance.
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, tremor, palpitations, nervousness, throat irritation, rash
Use with caution in heart disease, arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, seizure disorder, and in patients with history of peptic ulcer. Do not exceed prescribed dose; may cause tremors/palpitations. Seek medical help if breathing worsens, high fever persists, or sputum becomes blood-stained. Use caution in liver/kidney impairment and in elderly. Not for chronic cough due to smoking unless advised by a doctor.
Beta-blockers (may reduce effect), other sympathomimetics (additive cardiac effects), MAO inhibitors/tricyclic antidepressants (increased cardiovascular risk), diuretics/corticosteroids (risk of low potassium), digoxin (arrhythmia risk with hypokalemia), antitussives like codeine/dextromethorphan (may hinder mucus clearance)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light. Keep bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
