Overview
Salbutamol (as Salbutamol sulphate) 200 mcg per rotacaps (capsule for inhalation)
Uses & Benefits
Relief and prevention of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, COPD (chronic bronchitis, emphysema), wheezing and shortness of breath due to reversible airway obstruction
How It Works
Salbutamol is a short-acting beta-2 agonist (SABA) that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle. It quickly widens the airways, easing wheeze, chest tightness and breathlessness.
Directions for Use
For inhalation use only with a rotahaler/rotacap inhalation device; do not swallow. Use the number of rotacaps as prescribed, usually taken when needed for symptom relief or before exercise; follow technique instructions carefully and rinse mouth after use if advised.
Schedule H: use under medical supervision. Not for oral use; for inhalation only. Overuse can worsen asthma control and increase risk of serious side effects—seek medical help if needing more frequent doses. Use caution in heart disease, arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, diabetes and seizure disorders. May cause hypokalemia; caution if on diuretics or in severe asthma. If paradoxical bronchospasm (worsening wheeze) occurs, stop and seek care.
Drug Interactions
Beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) may reduce effect and can cause bronchospasm; other sympathomimetics; MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants may increase cardiovascular effects; diuretics and corticosteroids may increase risk of low potassium; digoxin (may reduce serum levels); theophylline/other xanthines (additive side effects)
