Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as upper and lower respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), ear infections (otitis media), skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections (e.g., uncomplicated chlamydial infection) as prescribed.

Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This stops bacterial growth and helps clear the infection.

Take by mouth as advised by your doctor. Usually taken once daily; swallow tablet whole with water. Can be taken with or without food (take after food if stomach upset occurs). Complete the full prescribed course even if you feel better.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, dizziness, taste disturbance

Use only for bacterial infections. Do not use if allergic to azithromycin/erythromycin/macrolides. Use with caution in liver disease, history of jaundice with azithromycin, myasthenia gravis, and in patients at risk of QT prolongation/arrhythmias (existing heart rhythm problems, low potassium/magnesium). Seek medical help for severe diarrhea (possible C. difficile), severe rash, or signs of liver injury (dark urine, yellowing of eyes/skin).

Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (separate by at least 2 hours), warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk), antiarrhythmics/QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine), fluoroquinolones and certain antipsychotics (QT risk), digoxin (may increase levels), cyclosporine (may increase levels), ergot derivatives (avoid)

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
