Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), ear infections (otitis media), skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections (e.g., uncomplicated chlamydial infection) as prescribed.
How It Works
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This stops bacterial growth and helps clear infection.
Directions for Use
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily. Can be taken with or without food (take after food if stomach upset occurs). Swallow whole with water and complete the full course even if you feel better.
Use only for bacterial infections (not viral colds/flu). Inform doctor if you have liver disease, history of jaundice with azithromycin, heart rhythm problems/QT prolongation, low potassium/magnesium, or myasthenia gravis. Stop and seek medical help if severe allergic reaction, severe skin rash, persistent/watery diarrhoea (possible C. difficile), or signs of liver injury (yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine) occur. Dose adjustment/monitoring may be needed in hepatic impairment; use caution in severe renal impairment.
