Azusic-250 mg Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Azithromycin 250 mg. Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as upper and lower respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), ear infections (otitis media), skin and soft tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections (e.g., uncomplicated chlamydial infection) as prescribed. It belongs to the group of medicines called Macrolide antibiotic.
Tablet to be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Azusic-250 mg Tablet are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Azusic-250 mg Tablet works.

Most side effects of Azusic-250 mg are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Tablet to be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Usually taken once daily; may be taken with or without food (take with food if stomach upset occurs). Swallow whole with water and complete the full course; avoid taking aluminium/magnesium antacids within 2 hours of the dose.
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. This stops growth and multiplication of susceptible bacteria and helps clear the infection.
Use only for bacterial infections (not viral). Complete the prescribed course. Use with caution in liver disease, history of jaundice with azithromycin/macrolides, myasthenia gravis, and in patients with risk of QT prolongation/arrhythmias (existing QT prolongation, low potassium/magnesium, slow heart rate, use of QT-prolonging drugs). Seek urgent care for severe allergic reaction, severe diarrhoea (possible C. difficile), or signs of liver injury (yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine).
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine can cause vomiting, hearing disturbance and heart rhythm changes. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Antacids containing aluminium/magnesium (reduce absorption), warfarin and other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), digoxin (may increase levels), ciclosporin (may increase levels), statins (rare risk of muscle toxicity), other QT-prolonging medicines (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, certain antipsychotics/fluoroquinolones), nelfinavir (may increase azithromycin levels).
Store below 25°C, in a cool dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
