Betavert Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Betahistine (16mg). It is used for Meniere's disease. It belongs to the group of medicines called Central nervous system agent.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Betavert Tablet are drowsiness, dizziness, nausea and dry mouth. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Betavert Tablet works.
Treatment of Meniere's disease
Most side effects of Betavert are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Betavert 16 Tablet may be taken with or without food.
Betavert 16 Tablet is a histamine analog. It works by improving the blood flow in the inner ear which reduces the pressure of excess fluid there. Excess fluid can send signals to the brain causing nausea, dizziness or spinning sensations (symptoms of Ménière's disease). Betavert 16 Tablet additionally dampens down the nerve signals sent from the inner ear to the brain relieving the symptoms of Ménière's disease.
Do not stop this medicine suddenly without asking your doctor. This medicine causes drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you. Report any change in mood, sleep or behaviour.
If you miss a dose of Betavert 16 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
An overdose of this medicine can cause deep drowsiness, confusion and fits. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Alcohol and other sedating medicines add to the drowsiness.
Store below 30°C in the original pack, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
