Bilastine (20mg) + Montelukast (10mg)
Treatment of allergic rhinitis (seasonal/perennial) with symptoms such as sneezing, runny/blocked nose, itching and watery eyes; allergic rhinitis associated with cough/wheeze in patients needing leukotriene receptor antagonist.
Bilastine is a second‑generation antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors to reduce sneezing, itching and watery eyes. Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks cysteinyl leukotrienes, decreasing allergy‑related nasal congestion and airway inflammation.
Tablet; take exactly as prescribed. Commonly taken once daily. Bilastine is best taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after food); avoid taking with fruit juice. Swallow whole with water.
Headache, drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea
Prescription (Schedule H) medicine. May cause drowsiness/dizziness in some people—avoid driving or operating machinery if affected. Avoid fruit juices (grapefruit/orange/apple) around dosing as they can reduce bilastine absorption. Use with caution in severe kidney impairment; dose adjustments/avoidance may be needed when combined with strong P-gp inhibitors. Montelukast may rarely cause mood/behavior changes (agitation, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, suicidal thoughts); stop and consult a doctor if these occur. Not for immediate relief of acute asthma attack. Inform doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, or are taking other allergy/asthma medicines.
Fruit juices (reduce bilastine absorption), alcohol and other CNS depressants (may increase drowsiness), strong P-gp inhibitors such as ketoconazole/itraconazole/erythromycin/cyclosporine/ritonavir (may increase bilastine levels), rifampicin (may reduce montelukast levels), gemfibrozil (may increase montelukast exposure)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
Bilaxten-M Tablet, Bilast-M Tablet, Bilaz-M Tablet, Bilastine+Montelukast Tablet (generic equivalents), Montair-LC (Montelukast+Levocetirizine alternative)
