Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as acute sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis/pharyngitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections, urinary tract infections

Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from degradation by beta-lactamase–producing bacteria, thereby extending its spectrum.

Oral tablet. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset. Swallow with water and complete the full course even if you feel better; do not skip doses.

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, rash, urticaria, headache, dizziness, oral/vaginal thrush

Prescription-only antibiotic; do not use for viral infections. Avoid if allergic to penicillins/cephalosporins or if you had cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction with amoxicillin-clavulanate. Use with caution in liver disease and severe renal impairment (dose adjustment may be needed). Prolonged use may cause superinfection; seek help for severe diarrhoea (possible C. difficile).

Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase INR), methotrexate (increased toxicity risk), probenecid (raises amoxicillin levels), allopurinol (increased rash risk), mycophenolate mofetil (reduced active metabolite exposure), oral contraceptives (reduced efficacy possible—use backup if advised)

Store below 25°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
