Capsule
Bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, acne, sexually transmitted infections (e.g., chlamydia), and other susceptible infections as prescribed
Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, stopping bacterial growth. Lactic acid bacillus helps restore normal gut flora and may reduce antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
Take as prescribed by the doctor. Usually taken with a full glass of water; avoid lying down for 30 minutes after taking. Preferably take after food if stomach upset occurs. Avoid taking with milk/dairy, antacids, iron or zinc supplements within 2–3 hours of the dose.
nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, headache, dizziness, photosensitivity (sunburn risk), oesophagitis/heartburn, vaginal thrush
Complete the full course even if you feel better. May cause severe sun sensitivity—use sunscreen/cover up. Risk of oesophageal irritation/ulceration—take with plenty of water and do not lie down immediately. Not recommended in pregnancy and in children <8 years (tooth discoloration, effects on bone). Use with caution in liver disease; may cause superinfection (e.g., fungal). Seek urgent care for severe allergy, persistent diarrhoea, or signs of intracranial hypertension (severe headache/vision changes).
Antacids (aluminium/magnesium), calcium supplements, iron, zinc, bismuth (reduce absorption); warfarin (may increase bleeding risk); retinoids such as isotretinoin/acitretin (risk of intracranial hypertension); penicillins (may reduce effect); enzyme inducers like phenytoin/carbamazepine/barbiturates (may reduce doxycycline levels); oral contraceptives (may reduce efficacy—use backup contraception)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
