Maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) as an inhaled corticosteroid to reduce airway inflammation and prevent symptoms like wheeze and breathlessness.

Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation and swelling in the airways. It decreases the release of inflammatory mediators, leading to improved breathing and fewer exacerbations when used regularly.

For inhalation use only with a compatible dry powder inhaler device (e.g., rotacap/capsule inhaler as prescribed). Use regularly at the same time each day; do not swallow the capsule. Rinse mouth/gargle with water after each use to reduce risk of oral thrush. Dose and frequency as directed by physician.

Not for relief of acute asthma attack/bronchospasm—use a rescue bronchodilator for sudden symptoms. Use with caution in untreated infections (e.g., TB, fungal/viral), glaucoma/cataract, osteoporosis, liver disease. Possible adrenal suppression with high doses/long-term use; do not stop abruptly without medical advice. Monitor growth in children. Rinse mouth after inhalation to prevent oral candidiasis.

Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir/cobicistat, clarithromycin) may increase systemic budesonide effects; other corticosteroids may add to steroid side effects; caution with drugs that lower immunity.

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep capsules in blister until use. Keep out of reach of children.
