Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (pharyngitis/tonsillitis, bronchitis), ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections, and uncomplicated typhoid fever; probiotic is used to help prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. Lactic Acid Bacillus helps restore/maintain normal intestinal flora and may reduce diarrhoea caused by antibiotics.
Take by mouth as prescribed by a doctor, usually once daily or in divided doses. Can be taken with or without food; take with food if stomach upset occurs. Swallow tablet with water and complete the full course; separate probiotic-containing products from the antibiotic by a few hours if advised.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, flatulence, headache, dizziness, rash, itching
Use only for bacterial infections. Do not use if allergic to cefixime/other cephalosporins; caution with history of penicillin allergy. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease. Stop and seek medical help if severe allergy (swelling, breathing difficulty), severe skin rash, or persistent/watery/bloody diarrhoea occurs (risk of C. difficile). Use with caution in history of colitis/GI disease. Probiotic should be used cautiously in severely immunocompromised patients or those with central venous catheters.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), probenecid (may increase cefixime levels), carbamazepine (levels may increase), live bacterial vaccines such as oral typhoid vaccine (reduced effect), antacids/iron supplements may reduce absorption of some antibiotics—separate by 2 hours if advised.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
