Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, acute otitis media, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, community-acquired pneumonia/acute bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and skin/soft tissue infections.

Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. It is active against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria susceptible to cephalosporins.

Tablet: take as prescribed by the physician, usually with food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; complete the full course even if you feel better. Dose and duration depend on infection type and kidney function.

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, rash, itching, vaginal candidiasis, increased liver enzymes

Use only for bacterial infections; inappropriate use may cause resistance. Inform doctor if allergic to cephalosporins/penicillins (risk of hypersensitivity). Use with caution in kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be required) and in patients with history of colitis; seek care for severe/persistent diarrhoea (possible C. difficile). May cause dizziness—use caution while driving if affected.

Antacids or H2 blockers (reduced absorption), probenecid (increases cefpodoxime levels), oral anticoagulants like warfarin (may increase bleeding risk/INR), nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides/loop diuretics (increased kidney risk), live oral typhoid vaccine (reduced vaccine efficacy)

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
