Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis/pharyngitis, community-acquired pneumonia/bronchitis exacerbation, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis leading to bacterial death. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from enzymatic breakdown, thereby extending its spectrum against beta-lactamase–producing bacteria.
Tablet for oral use. Take as prescribed by the doctor, preferably at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water; complete the full course even if you feel better. Dose and duration depend on infection severity and kidney function.
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, skin rash, oral/vaginal thrush
Prescription-only antibiotic. Do not use in patients with allergy to penicillins/cephalosporins or with a history of amoxicillin-clavulanate–associated jaundice/hepatic dysfunction. Use with caution in liver disease, kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed), infectious mononucleosis (higher rash risk), and history of colitis. Seek urgent help for severe allergy (swelling, breathing difficulty), severe/persistent diarrhoea, or yellowing of eyes/skin. May reduce effectiveness of oral typhoid vaccine; avoid unnecessary antibiotic use to prevent resistance.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase INR/bleeding risk), methotrexate (increased toxicity risk), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), allopurinol (increased rash risk), mycophenolate mofetil (reduced active metabolite levels), oral contraceptives (possible reduced efficacy—use backup if severe diarrhoea/vomiting)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
