Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis media, bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections, and certain bone/joint infections.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis leading to bacterial death. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from enzymatic breakdown, thereby broadening antibacterial coverage.
Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, usually with food at the start of a meal to reduce stomach upset. Swallow whole with water and complete the full course; do not stop early even if you feel better.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, skin rash, itching, oral/vaginal thrush
Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for bacterial infections. Do not use if allergic to penicillins/cephalosporins or if you had jaundice/liver problems with amoxicillin-clavulanate. Use with caution in liver disease, kidney impairment (dose adjustment may be needed), infectious mononucleosis (risk of rash), and history of antibiotic-associated colitis. Seek urgent help for signs of severe allergy (wheezing, swelling, hives) or severe/persistent diarrhea. May reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives; use additional contraception during therapy and for 7 days after.
Warfarin/other anticoagulants (may increase bleeding risk/INR), methotrexate (increased toxicity), allopurinol (increased rash risk), probenecid (increases amoxicillin levels), mycophenolate mofetil (reduced exposure), oral contraceptives (reduced efficacy)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
