Syrup
Symptomatic relief of cough (dry or productive) and associated throat irritation in common cold/upper respiratory tract infections.
Cough syrups typically combine agents that suppress the cough reflex and/or loosen mucus to make it easier to expel. Some formulations also reduce nasal/throat irritation to improve breathing comfort.
Shake well before use. Measure the dose with a calibrated cup/spoon. Take as directed by a doctor/pharmacist; may be taken with or without food. Do not exceed the recommended dose; avoid use in young children unless prescribed.
Drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, stomach upset
May cause sleepiness—avoid driving or operating machinery. Use with caution in children, elderly, liver/kidney disease, asthma/COPD, and in patients with persistent cough (smoking, chronic bronchitis) unless evaluated. Do not use longer than advised; seek medical care if fever, breathlessness, wheeze, chest pain, blood in sputum, or symptoms persist. If the product contains multiple cough/cold ingredients, avoid taking other similar OTC products to prevent overdose.
Alcohol and other CNS depressants (sedatives, sleeping pills, opioids) may increase drowsiness; MAO inhibitors/SSRIs or other serotonergic drugs (if formulation contains dextromethorphan); anticholinergics (if antihistamine present)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep the bottle tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children.
