Symptomatic relief of cough associated with cold/allergy; sugar-free formulation suitable for patients needing to avoid sugar (exact actives depend on pack)

Cough syrups may combine antitussives to reduce cough reflex, expectorants/mucolytics to loosen mucus, and antihistamines/decongestants to relieve allergy/cold symptoms depending on the formulation.

Take as prescribed on the label or by physician. Measure with a dosing cup/spoon; do not exceed recommended dose. If it causes drowsiness, avoid driving.

Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, stomach upset, constipation, palpitations

Do not use with other cough/cold products containing similar ingredients. Use caution in glaucoma, prostate enlargement/urinary retention, asthma/COPD (depending on actives), liver disease, and in children. Seek medical advice if cough persists >7 days, is recurrent, or with fever, wheeze, blood or thick green sputum.

Alcohol and other CNS depressants increase drowsiness; MAO inhibitors and some antidepressants may interact with certain antitussives/decongestants; antihistamines can add to sedation with sedatives; specific interactions depend on actual ingredients
