Used for inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as asthma and severe allergies, rheumatoid/juvenile arthritis, lupus and other connective tissue disorders, skin and eye inflammation, and as an immunosuppressant in certain conditions (as prescribed).

Deflazacort is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation and suppresses immune responses. It decreases the release of inflammatory mediators, thereby reducing swelling, redness, pain and allergic symptoms.

Tablet for oral use. Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with food to reduce stomach upset, and at the same time each day. Do not stop suddenly; dose should be tapered under medical advice.

Increased appetite, weight gain, indigestion, mood changes, sleep disturbance, increased blood sugar, fluid retention, raised blood pressure, acne, increased risk of infections

Prescription-only steroid. Long-term use can cause adrenal suppression, osteoporosis, cataract/glaucoma, muscle weakness and increased infection risk. Use caution in diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, tuberculosis/latent infections, glaucoma, osteoporosis, liver disease. Avoid live vaccines during therapy. Do not discontinue abruptly; taper required. Seek medical help for fever, sore throat, unusual bruising/bleeding, black stools, vision changes.

Live vaccines, NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen/diclofenac) and alcohol (↑ GI bleeding risk), antidiabetics/insulin (may need dose adjustment), antihypertensives/diuretics (electrolyte changes), anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), CYP3A inducers (rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine) and inhibitors (ketoconazole, macrolides) affecting steroid levels, cyclosporine/tacrolimus

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
