Used as a corticosteroid to reduce inflammation and suppress immune reactions in conditions such as asthma/allergic disorders, rheumatoid/autoimmune diseases, inflammatory skin disorders, and other inflammatory conditions as prescribed.
Deflazacort is a glucocorticoid that is converted in the body to an active metabolite which inhibits inflammatory mediators and reduces immune system activity. This decreases swelling, redness, pain and allergic symptoms.
Take tablet exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Usually taken once daily in the morning with food to reduce stomach upset; swallow with water. Do not stop suddenly—dose should be tapered under medical advice.
Increased appetite, weight gain, indigestion, mood changes, insomnia, fluid retention, increased blood sugar, increased blood pressure, acne

Use with caution in diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, glaucoma, osteoporosis, liver/kidney disease and in the elderly. Avoid close contact with people who have infections; seek care for fever/sore throat. Do not stop abruptly. Vaccines: avoid live vaccines during therapy unless advised.
