Etofylline (115mg) + Theophylline (35mg)
Bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis and other breathing disorders with bronchospasm/wheezing
Etofylline is a xanthine bronchodilator. It relaxes smooth muscles in the airways and reduces bronchospasm, leading to easier breathing and improved airflow.
Take as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the retard (sustained-release) tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew. Usually taken after food at the same time each day.
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, headache, restlessness, tremor, insomnia, palpitations, increased heart rate
Prescription-only (Schedule H). Use with caution in heart disease/arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, peptic ulcer disease, liver or kidney impairment, seizure disorders and in elderly. Excess dose may cause serious toxicity (severe vomiting, seizures, dangerous arrhythmias); seek urgent care if symptoms occur. Avoid excessive caffeine. Do not stop or change dose without medical advice.
Caffeine and other xanthines (additive stimulation), beta-agonist bronchodilators (additive cardiac effects), macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin), fluoroquinolones (e.g., ciprofloxacin), cimetidine (may increase xanthine levels), phenytoin/carbamazepine/rifampicin (may reduce levels), beta-blockers (may reduce bronchodilation)
