Monograph
Syrup
Likely used for symptomatic relief of allergy-related symptoms in children such as runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion and watery/itchy eyes (exact indication depends on label composition).
This pediatric syrup is likely an anti-allergic combination. Antihistamines reduce the effect of histamine (responsible for sneezing, itching and watery eyes), while a leukotriene blocker (if present) helps reduce allergy-related inflammation in the airways and nose. Exact mechanism depends on the active ingredients listed on the pack.
Shake well before use. Measure the dose with a measuring cup/spoon and give as prescribed by the pediatrician; dosing is usually age/weight-based. Can be given with or without food; if stomach upset occurs, give after food. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, nausea, stomach upset, fatigue
Use only under pediatric supervision. May cause sleepiness—avoid activities requiring alertness if affected. Use with caution in children with liver disease, kidney disease, asthma, glaucoma, urinary retention or seizure disorders (depending on ingredients). Seek medical help for rash, swelling, breathing difficulty or severe drowsiness. Do not use with other cold/cough or allergy medicines unless advised.
Other sedatives (sleep medicines), alcohol-containing products, opioids, benzodiazepines, other antihistamines, certain antidepressants/antipsychotics (may increase drowsiness); exact interactions depend on composition.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children.
