Treatment of depression (major depressive disorder), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) as prescribed

Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It increases serotonin levels in the brain by blocking its reuptake, helping improve mood and reduce anxiety symptoms.

Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, usually once daily at the same time, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water; do not stop suddenly without medical advice.

Nausea, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, sleepiness, insomnia, fatigue, increased sweating, diarrhea or constipation, decreased appetite, sexual dysfunction

Prescription-only medicine. Do not stop abruptly (withdrawal symptoms). May increase risk of suicidal thoughts/behaviour especially in young adults; monitor mood changes. Risk of serotonin syndrome (agitation, fever, tremor) especially with other serotonergic drugs. Can cause QT prolongation/abnormal heart rhythm—use caution in heart disease, low potassium/magnesium. May cause drowsiness—avoid driving if affected. Use caution in seizures, bipolar disorder/mania, liver impairment, bleeding disorders. Inform doctor about pregnancy/breastfeeding.

MAO inhibitors (contraindicated), linezolid/methylene blue, other SSRIs/SNRIs/triptans/tramadol/lithium/tryptophan/St John’s wort (serotonin syndrome risk), anticoagulants/antiplatelets/NSAIDs (bleeding risk), QT-prolonging drugs (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol, certain antipsychotics, macrolides), alcohol and other CNS depressants, cimetidine/omeprazole (may increase escitalopram levels)

Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from moisture and direct light. Keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
