Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) 10 mg/mL (1 g/100 mL) IV infusion
Management of mild to moderate pain, adjunct in moderate to severe pain, reduction of fever (pyrexia), especially when oral/rectal route is not possible
Paracetamol reduces pain and fever by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system. It acts on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center to lower body temperature and raises pain threshold to provide analgesia.
For intravenous infusion only; administer as per doctor’s prescription, usually as a slow IV infusion over about 15 minutes. Dose is based on age/weight and total daily paracetamol from all sources; can be given with or without food (not applicable). Do not mix with other medicines in the same IV line unless compatibility is confirmed.
nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, low blood pressure (hypotension), injection site pain, infusion site reactions, increased liver enzymes, allergic reactions (rash, itching)
Do not use in severe liver disease/active liver failure. Use with caution in hepatic impairment, chronic alcoholism, malnutrition, dehydration, severe renal impairment, or low body weight; monitor liver function if prolonged/repeated dosing. Avoid exceeding total daily paracetamol dose from all products to prevent serious liver injury. Stop and seek medical help if signs of allergy (swelling, breathing difficulty, rash) occur.
Alcohol, warfarin/coumarin anticoagulants (with prolonged regular use may increase INR), enzyme inducers (rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital), isoniazid, probenecid (may increase paracetamol levels; dose adjustment may be needed), other paracetamol-containing products
Store below 25°C, protect from light, do not freeze. Keep in original container; use only if solution is clear and container is intact. Discard any unused portion after opening as per hospital protocol.
