Sulfonylurea that stimulates pancreatic insulin release and improves sensitivity.; Decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity; acts in liver and gut.
Take as directed by your doctor, with or after meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Monitor blood sugar levels regularly.

Low blood sugar, weight gain.; GI upset (nausea, diarrhea); rare risk of lactic acidosis.
Carry sugar source for hypoglycemia; review during illness or fasting.; Inform clinician about kidney problems; withhold around iodinated contrast when advised.
Many medicines change how strongly this works — tell your doctor about aspirin, blood thinners, antifungals, sulfa antibiotics and beta blockers in particular. Beta blockers can mask the warning signs of low blood sugar. Tell your doctor about water tablets, steroids, and any contrast dye scan. Alcohol increases the risk of the rare acid build-up and should be limited.
