Glycomet GP 0.5 Tablet

Glycomet Gp 0.5 Tablet contains Glimepiride (0.5mg) + Metformin (500mg). Prescription required.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone are not enough; helps control high blood sugar

Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) increases insulin release from the pancreas. Metformin (a biguanide) reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, lowering blood glucose levels.

Oral tablet; take exactly as prescribed. Usually taken once daily with food (often with breakfast) to reduce stomach upset and risk of low sugar. Swallow whole with water; do not crush/chew if it is SR/ER.

Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, metallic taste, headache, dizziness, weight gain, skin rash

May cause hypoglycaemia—risk increases with missed meals, excess exercise, alcohol, or with other antidiabetics; carry glucose. Metformin rarely may cause lactic acidosis—risk higher with kidney disease, dehydration, severe infection, heart/respiratory failure, heavy alcohol use; stop and seek care for rapid breathing, severe weakness, muscle pain, unusual sleepiness. Avoid in severe renal impairment; kidney function should be checked before and during therapy. Temporarily stop metformin around iodinated contrast studies and major surgery as advised. Use caution in elderly and in liver disease; monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly.

Alcohol (increases hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk), insulin/other antidiabetics (additive hypoglycaemia), beta-blockers (mask hypoglycaemia symptoms), corticosteroids and thiazide diuretics (raise blood sugar), ACE inhibitors (may enhance glucose-lowering), fluoroquinolones (may alter glucose), NSAIDs and sulfonamides (may increase hypoglycaemia), cimetidine (increases metformin levels), iodinated contrast media (increases lactic acidosis risk)

Store below 25°C in a dry place; protect from moisture and direct light; keep in original blister pack and out of reach of children.
