Suspension
Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections (including typhoid/enteric fever), respiratory tract infections, skin/soft tissue infections, and other infections as prescribed
Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It kills bacteria by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, blocking bacterial DNA replication and repair.
Oral suspension: shake well before use. Measure dose with a calibrated spoon/cup as prescribed by the doctor; may be taken with or without food, but avoid taking with milk/dairy, calcium/iron/antacid preparations close to the dose. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, rash, taste disturbance
Prescription-only antibiotic; use only for bacterial infections. Risk of tendonitis/tendon rupture (higher in elderly, steroid users), peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects (seizures, confusion), QT prolongation, severe allergy and C. difficile-associated diarrhoea. Use with caution in kidney disease, epilepsy/seizure disorders, myasthenia gravis, and in children (only when benefits outweigh risks). Avoid unnecessary sun exposure (photosensitivity). Do not stop early; avoid self-medication.
Antacids or supplements containing aluminium/magnesium/calcium/iron/zinc (reduced absorption), sucralfate (reduced absorption), theophylline (increased levels/toxicity), warfarin (increased bleeding risk), tizanidine (contraindicated—marked hypotension/sedation), QT-prolonging drugs (additive risk), steroids (increased tendon risk), NSAIDs (may increase CNS stimulation/seizure risk)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep bottle tightly closed; do not freeze. Follow label for in-use shelf life after reconstitution (if supplied as dry syrup).
