Treatment of moderate to severe acne related to androgen sensitivity, hirsutism (excess facial/body hair) and androgenic alopecia in women, when oral contraception is also desired

Ethinylestradiol suppresses ovulation and stabilizes hormonal fluctuations, providing contraceptive effect. Cyproterone acetate blocks androgen receptors and reduces androgen production, lowering sebum and androgen-driven hair growth.

Take 1 tablet once daily at the same time each day for 21 days, then stop for 7 days (withdrawal bleeding usually occurs), then start the next pack. Can be taken with or without food; swallow with water. Use as prescribed by a doctor; not for use in men.

Contraindicated in pregnancy and suspected pregnancy. Increased risk of blood clots (DVT/PE), stroke and heart attack—risk higher in smokers >35 years, obesity, prolonged immobilization, personal/family history of thrombosis. Do not use in current/past thromboembolic disorders, severe liver disease or liver tumors, hormone-dependent cancers (e.g., breast cancer), unexplained vaginal bleeding, migraine with aura, uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes with vascular complications. Stop and seek urgent care for leg swelling/pain, chest pain, sudden breathlessness, severe headache, vision changes or jaundice. May slightly increase risk of certain cancers; regular check-ups advised.

Enzyme inducers may reduce efficacy: rifampicin/rifabutin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, topiramate, oxcarbazepine, St John’s wort. Some antiretrovirals may alter levels. Certain antibiotics (e.g., rifampicin) significantly reduce effect; additional contraception needed. May increase levels/effects of ciclosporin; may reduce lamotrigine levels. Use caution with drugs that increase clot risk.

Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
