Ointment
Treatment of bacterial skin infections such as impetigo, infected cuts/wounds, abrasions, folliculitis and secondary infected eczema caused by susceptible bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes).
Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to isoleucyl‑tRNA synthetase. This stops bacterial growth and helps clear the skin infection.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer to the affected skin 2–3 times daily or as directed by a doctor; may cover with sterile gauze if advised. Use for the prescribed duration; avoid contact with eyes, mouth and inside nose unless specifically prescribed.
Burning/stinging, itching, redness, dryness, pain/tenderness at application site, rash, contact dermatitis
Do not use if allergic to mupirocin or any ingredient. Avoid use on large areas, deep puncture wounds, serious burns or prolonged use unless advised. Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation, worsening, or signs of allergy occur. Avoid contact with eyes; rinse with water if accidental exposure. Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Use with caution in severe renal impairment if the base contains polyethylene glycol and large areas are treated.
No major systemic drug interactions expected with topical use. Avoid combining with other topical preparations on the same area unless advised, as they may reduce effect or increase irritation.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.
