Ointment
Treatment of superficial bacterial skin infections such as impetigo, infected cuts/wounds, minor skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria (including Staphylococcus aureus).
Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to isoleucyl‑tRNA synthetase. This stops bacterial growth and helps clear the skin infection.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer to the infected skin 2–3 times daily or as directed by a doctor; may be covered with a sterile gauze dressing. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and inside the nose unless prescribed; wash hands after application.
Burning, stinging, itching, redness, dryness, local irritation, rash
Do not use if allergic to mupirocin or any ingredient. Avoid use on large areas for prolonged periods unless advised (risk of resistance and absorption of ointment base, especially in severe renal impairment). Stop and seek medical advice if severe irritation, worsening infection, or signs of allergy occur. Not for fungal/viral infections; avoid use in eyes. Prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
No significant interactions expected with topical use. Avoid applying other topical products on the same area unless advised, as they may dilute the medicine or increase irritation.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep cap tightly closed and protect from heat and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
