Ointment
Treatment of localized bacterial skin infections (e.g., impetigo, infected eczema/dermatitis, minor infected cuts/wounds) caused by susceptible organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by blocking isoleucyl‑tRNA synthetase. This stops bacterial growth and helps clear susceptible skin infections.
For external use only. Clean and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer 2–3 times daily or as directed by the doctor. May be covered with a light gauze dressing. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and inside the nose unless specifically prescribed; wash hands before and after use.
Burning or stinging at application site, itching, redness, dryness, rash, pain/tenderness, contact dermatitis
Do not use if allergic to mupirocin or ointment base. Avoid prolonged use or use over large areas to reduce risk of resistance and sensitization. Stop and consult a doctor if severe irritation, rash or signs of allergy occur, or if no improvement within 3–5 days. Avoid use in deep wounds, serious burns, or extensive skin damage unless advised by a clinician. Use cautiously in severe renal impairment if large amounts are applied (due to polyethylene glycol base in some formulations).
No significant systemic drug interactions expected with topical use. Avoid concurrent application with other topical products on the same area unless advised (may reduce efficacy).
Store below 25°C. Keep tube tightly closed. Protect from heat and light. Do not freeze.
