Type 2 diabetes mellitus (adjunct to diet and exercise) for improving glycaemic control; may be used as add-on to other antidiabetic medicines as prescribed.
Dapagliflozin is an SGLT2 inhibitor that reduces glucose reabsorption in the kidneys. It increases urinary glucose excretion, thereby lowering blood sugar and also causing mild diuresis.
Oral tablet. Take once daily as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day, with or without food. Maintain adequate hydration; follow diet and exercise advice. Do not stop or change dose without medical advice.
Genital fungal infections, urinary tract infection, increased urination, thirst, dizziness, low blood sugar (when used with insulin/sulfonylureas), nausea
Not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Risk of genital mycotic infections, urinary tract infections, dehydration/low blood pressure, and rare euglycaemic ketoacidosis—seek care for nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing, unusual fatigue. Monitor kidney function; use with caution/avoid in severe renal impairment and in elderly or patients on diuretics. Temporarily stop before major surgery or during acute serious illness/fasting as advised by doctor.
Insulin and sulfonylureas (increased hypoglycaemia risk), diuretics (increased dehydration/hypotension risk), other antihypertensives (additive BP lowering).
