Tablet
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn/acid reflux, erosive esophagitis, peptic/duodenal ulcer, gastritis, prevention of NSAID-induced ulcers, Zollinger–Ellison syndrome and other acid hypersecretory states
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It irreversibly blocks the H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing stomach acid production and promoting healing of acid-related damage.
Tablet for oral use. Usually taken once daily 30–60 minutes before food (preferably before breakfast) or as directed by the physician. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew.
headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence, vomiting, dizziness
Use with caution in severe liver disease. Long-term use may increase risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, low magnesium, bone fractures, and fundic gland polyps; use the lowest effective dose. Seek medical advice if alarm symptoms occur (unintentional weight loss, persistent vomiting, difficulty swallowing, blood in vomit/stools, black stools). May increase risk of C. difficile–associated diarrhea. Hypersensitivity reactions are possible.
Atazanavir/nelfinavir (reduced effect—avoid), warfarin (monitor INR), methotrexate (high-dose—may increase levels), digoxin/diuretics (risk of low magnesium), clopidogrel (possible reduced antiplatelet effect—use caution), ketoconazole/itraconazole/iron salts (reduced absorption), tacrolimus (may increase levels)
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
