Panitus -40 is a prescription medicine containing Pantoprazole 40 mg (as Pantoprazole Sodium). It is used for acid reflux (GERD), heartburn, erosive esophagitis, peptic, duodenal ulcers, prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers, part of H. pylori eradication therapy with antibiotics and zollinger–Ellison syndrome (excess acid secretion). It belongs to the group of medicines called Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI).
Tablet, oral. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Panitus -40 are headache, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Panitus -40 works.
Most side effects of Panitus -40 are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
Tablet, oral. Usually taken once daily 30–60 minutes before food (preferably before breakfast). Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew. Dose and duration as advised by the doctor.
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that irreversibly blocks the gastric H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) in stomach parietal cells. This reduces acid production and helps heal acid-related damage in the food pipe and stomach.
Use with caution in severe liver disease. Long-term use may increase risk of low magnesium, vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fractures, and infections (e.g., C. difficile diarrhea, pneumonia). May mask symptoms of gastric cancer—seek medical advice if you have unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, black stools, or difficulty swallowing. If used for prolonged periods, periodic monitoring may be needed.
Take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, skip the one you missed — never take two doses together to catch up.
An overdose of this medicine may cause confusion, blurred vision, sweating and a fast heartbeat. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
