Monograph
Scabmust Soap is a prescription medicine containing Permethrin (1%w/w). It is used for scabies, lice infestation, helps relieve associated itching and skin irritation. It belongs to the group of medicines called Topical anti-scabies/anti-parasitic cleansing bar.
For external use only. The dose and how long you take it depend on what you are being treated for and how you respond. Do not take more, or for longer, than your doctor has advised.
The side effects seen most often with Scabmust Soap are skin irritation, burning or stinging, redness and dryness. Most are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. Tell your doctor if one persists or worries you.
Before you start, tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problem, whether you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, including supplements and ayurvedic preparations. Some of them can change how Scabmust Soap works.
Most side effects of Scabmust Soap are mild and settle as the body gets used to the medicine. The ones reported most often are:
Stop the medicine and get help at once for a rash, swelling of the face or lips, wheezing or difficulty breathing. Tell your doctor about any side effect that persists or worries you.
For external use only. Wet the body/affected area, apply soap to lather, leave on skin for 2–5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Use as advised by a doctor; avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and broken skin. If irritation occurs, reduce frequency or discontinue and seek medical advice.
Scabicides/anti-parasitic agents in medicated soaps help kill mites/lice on the skin surface and reduce infestation load. Regular cleansing also removes debris and may help reduce itching and secondary infection risk.
Not for ingestion. Avoid use on severely inflamed, broken, or oozing skin unless advised by a clinician. Stop use and consult a doctor if severe irritation, swelling, blistering, or allergy occurs. Keep away from eyes and mucous membranes; rinse with plenty of water if contact occurs. In scabies, treat close contacts and wash clothing/bed linen to prevent reinfestation; itching may persist for days after successful treatment.
Apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next application, skip the missed one — applying extra does not make up for it.
An overdose of this medicine is unlikely from skin use; swallowing the preparation may cause stomach upset. Do not wait for symptoms to appear — go to the nearest emergency department and take the pack or strip with you.
No significant interactions are expected from preparations used on the skin.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Keep the soap in a dry soap dish between uses.
