Respule
Maintenance treatment of asthma and prevention of asthma symptoms, management of wheezing and airway inflammation; may also be used in COPD or croup as prescribed
Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid that reduces inflammation and swelling in the airways. It decreases release of inflammatory mediators, helping prevent wheeze, cough and breathlessness with regular use.
For inhalation via nebulizer only. Use the respule as prescribed (commonly 0.5 mg once or twice daily depending on age/severity). Twist open, empty contents into nebulizer chamber and nebulize; do not swallow or inject. Rinse mouth/gargle after use to reduce oral thrush; clean nebulizer parts after each use. Use regularly, not for sudden acute attacks.
Hoarseness, throat irritation, cough, oral thrush (candidiasis), dry mouth, headache, nausea
Not for immediate relief of acute bronchospasm—keep a rescue bronchodilator as advised. Rinse mouth after each use to prevent fungal infection. Use with caution in untreated infections (TB, fungal/viral), glaucoma/cataract, liver disease; long-term/high-dose use may suppress adrenal function and affect growth in children. Do not stop abruptly without medical advice. Seek care if worsening breathlessness, fever, white patches in mouth, or vision changes.
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, ritonavir/cobicistat, clarithromycin) may increase budesonide levels and systemic steroid effects; other corticosteroids may add to side effects; live vaccines should be used with medical advice
Store at room temperature (below 25°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep respules in original pouch/pack until use. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
