Sevalac 800 mg Tablet

Sevalac 800 mg Tablet contains Sevelamer (800mg). Prescription required.

Used to control high blood phosphate (hyperphosphatemia) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially those on dialysis.

Sevelamer is a non-absorbed phosphate-binding polymer. It binds dietary phosphate in the gut and prevents its absorption, thereby lowering serum phosphate levels in CKD.

Tablet for oral use. Take with meals as prescribed by the doctor; swallow whole with water (do not crush or chew unless advised). Dose is individualized based on serum phosphate and dietary phosphate intake.

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, flatulence

Use only under medical supervision in CKD. Can cause gastrointestinal adverse effects including severe constipation, bowel obstruction/ileus or GI bleeding (seek urgent care for severe stomach pain, persistent constipation, vomiting, blood in stools). May reduce absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and folate; supplementation may be needed in long-term use. Monitor phosphate, calcium, PTH and bicarbonate as advised. Use with caution in patients with swallowing disorders or major GI motility disorders.

May reduce absorption of some medicines; separate dosing where advised. Notable interactions include ciprofloxacin (avoid co-administration; separate or use alternative), levothyroxine (monitor TSH; separate doses), mycophenolate mofetil, tacrolimus/cyclosporine (monitor levels), antiarrhythmics and anticonvulsants (monitor clinical effect/levels).

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
