Hair colour/dye for cosmetic colouring of hair; used to cover grey hair and provide black shade.
Hair dyes deposit colouring molecules onto the hair shaft. In oxidative systems, dye precursors react with an oxidizing agent (developer/oxygen) to form larger coloured molecules that get trapped in the hair cortex for longer-lasting colour.
For external use only. Perform a patch test 24–48 hours before each use. Wear gloves; mix/use as per label instructions (often with a developer/oxygen), apply evenly to dry hair, leave for the recommended time, then rinse thoroughly and shampoo/condition. Avoid contact with eyes and eyebrows/eyelashes.
Scalp irritation, itching, redness, burning sensation, dryness, hair breakage, allergic contact dermatitis, eye irritation (if exposed)
Patch test is essential due to risk of severe allergy (especially with PPD-type dyes). Do not use on irritated/injured scalp. Avoid eye contact; rinse immediately if it occurs. Do not use to dye eyelashes/eyebrows. Stop use and seek medical help if swelling of face/lips, breathing difficulty, widespread rash occurs. Keep out of reach of children. Use in a well-ventilated area; do not ingest.
No significant drug interactions expected for topical cosmetic hair dye; avoid concomitant use with other scalp irritants/chemical treatments (bleaching, perming) close together as irritation/damage may increase.
